Austin High PTSA Receives Major Endowment

Melissa Jackson (AHS ‘71) and Steve Saunders, co-Chairs of the Austin High 125th Anniversary Celebration, present a check for $50,000.00 to Elise Schram, PTSA President. The check is the contribution of the remaining net proceeds from the Celebration to the Austin High Endowment. Previously, $20,000 of the proceeds from the Celebration were distributed to the Austin High Alumni Association as its initial funding.The Austin High Endowment was created by the AHS PTSA in the Spring of 1999. It is a permanent endowment held at the Austin Community Foundation and 5% of the value of the Fund is available for distribution to the PTSA Excellence Fund each year. The Endowment offers a great opportunity for current and former Austin High families to contribute to the school’s success. Contributions to the Endowment can be made to honor graduating seniors, alums, teachers, administrators and staff members, and as memorialcontributions.

The Endowment will help provide the margin of excellence in the future to help ensure the high quality of AHS’s academic and extracurricular programs and its facilities and equipment. In addition to receiving checks, contributions of all types of assets (stock, life insurance, real estate, and other assets) can be made to the Endowment and can be made by individuals and foundations, and through estates. Contributions are deductible for income tax purposes to the maximum extent allowed by law.

With this contribution from the AHS 125th Anniversary Celebration the value of the Endowment is just over, appropriately enough, $125,000.00. The Alumni Association has had communication from several of its members that they plan to make substantial bequests to the Endowment in their Wills. The 125th Anniversary Celebration, the Endowment, and the Alumni Association are all funds of the Austin Community Foundation. The PTSA, the 125th Anniversary Celebration Committee, and the Alumni Association all have expressed their deep appreciation for all the assistance the Austin Community Foundation has rendered to Austin High through the years.
