We Mourn the Passing Of Angie Reeve
Angie Reeve, AHS librarian for 19 years and archivist for the Hall of Honor died July 10, 2016. We will miss her dedication for and love of her students as well as her embracing personality. A memorial service in her honor will be held at Austin High School on September 17 at 2:00pm.
Angelica “Angie” Carone Reeve was born July 29, 1948, in Escalon California and celebrated her Heavenly birthday July 10, 2016. Her parents, Luigi Carone and Maddalena DeCarlo Carone were two Italian immigrants who came to California seeking a better life, her father a walnut and grape farmer and her mother an incredible cook, seamstress and homemaker. Angie learned English at the age of six and often got scolded by teachers for talking to her classmates during lessons. Once Angie learned how to communicate in English she wasn’t going to stop. Angie’s mother, who had quit school at fourth grade in order to care for her siblings, emphasized the importance of education, inspiring Angie to earn a Bachelor’s degree from Sacramento State University and a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Texas at Austin.
Angie loved her family, many friends, the Texas Longhorn’s and Austin High School. She served as the Librarian and Archivist for 19 years at AHS and also served the Austin High School Hall of Honor. Angie’s love for the students was unparalleled, as was her commitment to seeing them succeed. Angie could often be found on the sidelines cheering on the students in a wide range of sports and in her support of the band. Angie also served on the inaugural committee, and for a number of years after, for the Texas Book Festival. Angie’s love of reading and desire to share a love for reading and literature was never in doubt. In undergrad Angie worked at the school library, where rather than shelving, she would sit within the stacks reading all the children’s books she missed out on as a child. Angie’s wide range of friends grew as she enjoyed playing with two Bunco teams over the years and as she worked at several schools within AISD. Angie was known for her amazing cooking skills, her love of knitting scarves for all her friends, fellow librarians, and family members. When Angie ran out of people to give scarfs to, she donated her scarfs to Saint John Neumann’s Mobile Loaves and Fishes and Safe Place. Angie was known for her kind heart and giving spirit. At Thanksgiving she often baked 20+ pies for friends’ celebrations and at Christmas she was famous for her gifts of homemade candy. Angie was always giving to someone, but her true gift was that of her friendship and love.
Angie is survived by daughters, Kristi Reeve of Austin and Michelle Reeve of Dallas. Angie had great pride in her daughters, one an attorney and one a RN, her legacy of higher education carries on. Angie is also survived by her Great Aunt Maddalena DeCarlo of Canada and her aunt’s many children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren and many relatives back in Bitritto Italy.
Kristi and Michelle would like to thank Dr. Beth Hellerstedt and Dr. Ryan Tierney, both of Texas Oncology, along with their staff, for their outstanding care and compassion. Kristi and Michelle would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and nurse assistants at Seton Main 7North and the staff at Christopher House.
A memorial service honoring the life of Angie will be held at Austin High School in the PAC on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 2 pm.
